Widows enrolled in the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the prompt payment of their October stipends, describing the gesture as a lifeline in a period of harsh economic realities.
For many of the beneficiaries, widowhood comes with emotional and financial strain, making government support crucial to their survival.
The timely disbursement, they said, provides both relief and renewed hope.
Speaking in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta, praised the governor’s “compassionate and exemplary leadership,” noting that the October payments were made directly into the bank accounts of the 10,000 verified widows between October 19 and 21, in line with the governor’s directive.
He commended Oborevwori’s consistency in releasing the monthly stipends, stressing that the initiative continues to bring relief to disadvantaged Deltans, especially widows who underwent thorough verification before being enrolled.
Okonta further disclosed that the Free Health Care Service Registration—also approved by the governor—is nearing completion. The programme, designed to provide medical support for the widows, has been ongoing alongside the stipend disbursement.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude and offered prayers for Governor Oborevwori, asking God to strengthen him and grant him the grace to sustain his welfare initiatives for the people of Delta State and the nation.
